what is Annex M?

ADSL2+ Annex M is a new high speed mode of ADSL2+ which allows the upstream data rate to be increased beyond the current 'Annex A' maximum, allowing speeds more than double the current upstream.

Whilst speeds achieved depend on the same factors that impact ADSL2+, like the length and condition of your phone line and the quality of your home/office wiring, typical achieved upstream speeds range up to around 2.75 Megabits per second. Customers with Annex M would expect to see speeds ranging anywhere from 1.6 to 2.75 Megabits.

what are the benefits?

Business customers often require a faster upstream speed to stream content, send large files, use Multiline VoIP or run video conferencing services.

This constraint is known as the upstream speed limitation available to you using standard ADSL. Annex M overcomes this by increasing the upstream connection speed, allowing more traffic to flow through your ADSL connection.
